Portland is a seaport and the largest city in the state of Oregon. The city covers 380 square kilometers and it's the 26th most populous city in the United States, with an estimated population of 632,309.

Portland began as a settlement in the early 1830s. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy.

During the 20th century, the city had a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, this until the industrial and economical boom of Portland, which came in the aftermath of World War II.

In the beginning of the 1960s, Portland became identified as a city where the vast majority shared liberal political values, and according to a research conducted in 2009, Portland ranks as the eighth most popular American city, based on where people want to live.

Portland is also recognized as one of the world's most environmentally conscious cities because of its high walkability, large community of bicyclists, farm-to-table dining, exceptionally expanded network of public transportation options, and over 10,000 acres of public parks.
